July 2010 WEEK 9 GAMES 31 JULY
11AM UPDATE—GAMES ARE ON

Games are confirmed as on for today 31 July under the Wet Weather Draw. Some modifications are below including all Sub-Junior games ON and playing from 12:00 on the Top Courts. An inspection of the top courts was made at 10:45 and the courts are fine for play.

One big favour we would appreciate is the Top Courts will need a sweep prior to play at 12:00. Could any parent attending the Sub-Juniors games who has a decent size yard broom please be there at 11:45 and help sweep the courts. Thank you.

July 2010 WEEK 9 GAMES 31 JULY—WET WEATHER DRAW

NOTE CHANGES FOR SUB-JUNIORS ESPECIALLY

We are now playing a Wet Weather Draw with some modifications.

Usually Sub-Juniors don’t play on wet weather draw days but Sub-Juniors are now playing at 12:00 tomorrow on the TOP COURTS.

The only other changes to the usual wet weather draw impact Open teams. The managers have all been informed and will pass the information on to the players shortly.

July 2010 — WEEK 9 GAMES 31 JULY

At this stage we are still expecting games to be played under the standard draw for Week 9 — but if we get significantly more rain we may need to move to a Wet Weather Draw. Generally it will depend on Hurstville Council’s decision whether to close the bottom grass courts, or not. Check back here Friday night for more information.

July 2010 — SEMIS and FINALS WEEKS 21 AUGUST and 28 AUGUST

July 2010 — LAST WEEK IS 14 AUGUST FOR TEAMS NOT IN SEMIS

14 August will be the last week of play for Intermediate, YP’s and Open teams not in the semi finals. Note that Junior divisions only have 4 teams so all teams will participate in the semi-final weekend 21 August.

July 2010 — SUB-JUNIORS LAST WEEK FOR GAMES IS 14 AUGUST

On their last day of play, 14 August, Sub-Juniors will be participating in Fun Games commencing at 12.00 on the bottom courts with a short presentation following. Further information will be given to Subs Coaches next week.

July 2010 REMINDER OF A REMINDER
PARENT COMMENTS TO PLAYERS &  UMPIRES

As disappointing as it is, we last week had further unhelpful comments from some parents challenging and criticising Umpire decisions and also parents making comments about players on the opposing teams.

This really has to stop for the benefit of the girls.

If an Umpire does believe a parent is interfering with a game, the first warning will be for the parent to stop. The next time it happens the parent will be asked to leave the playing area.

Some of the comments have been in the Sub-Juniors competition. It’s very important to understand that Sub-Juniors is a NON-COMPETITIVE division. Scores are kept, but only as a guide.

July 2010 — WEEK 8 GAMES 24 JULY

Competition resumes this Saturday 24 July for Week 8 games following our short school holiday break.

July 2010 — GREAT NEWS—GRANT FOR TOILET UPGRADE 2011 APPROVED

We have been successful in obtaining a Grant from Sport & Rec. for $20,000 to Upgrade the Ladies Toilet Block ready for next year. Hurstville Council will come to the party with the balance of $20,000 and they will undertake the work in conjunction with us.

July 2010 NO PLAY 10 JULY and 17 JULY DUE TO SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Just confirming that we don’t play 10 July or 17 July due to the school holidays.

Next scheduled play is for Week 8 games on 24 July.

June 2010 — 28 JUNE— SPECTATOR COMMENTS TO UMPIRES

Probably a good time to remind everyone of our responsibilities as parents and spectators towards umpires. Our constitution notes that we must remain respectful and courteous to players, umpires, coaches and officials. We’ve had a few incidents over the last few weeks where this is not the case, mainly parents unhappy with umpiring decisions.

It doesn't help our young umpires at all with some parents constantly criticising umpires rulings. The girls can hear every word you say, even if said to a few other parents close by. Some umpires have the confidence to ask parents to stop, but others are still learning to umpire, so are having enough trouble actually umpiring the game and gaining experience week by week, let alone having to deal with unnecessary pressure.

Without our young umpires we don’t have a competition, so next Saturday, while watching your daughter play, take a second to remember that the umpires you see on court do their best every week.

June 2010 — 28 JUNE— LOST PROPERTY

A purse was found on the lower courts on Saturday. Please contact Pamela on 95332889 if you are the owner.

June 2010 — 26 JUNE— WEATHER UPDATE AS AT 10AM

The weather has beaten us once again. Unfortunately ALL GAMES ARE CANCELLED 05 JUNE

Next playing day is 19 June so see you all then bright and dry [hopefully!] for our Week 5 games.

June 2010 — REMINDER—NO PLAY QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND 12 JUNE

Early and quick reminder that we do not play on 12 June due to the long weekend.

May 2010 — 29 MAY— ALL GAMES CANCELLED TODAY

Unfortunately the weather is expected to worsen during the day so ALL GAMES ARE CANCELLED for 29 May.

See you all next Saturday 05 June when we will play our Week 5 games.

May 2010 — 28 MAY— CHECK BACK HERE BY 11:30AM SATURDAY

Should there be heavy rain tomorrow morning there may be further changes to the days play. Please check back here by 11:30am Saturday for any changes to playing conditions.

May 2010 — 28 MAY— WET WEATHER DRAW IN EFFECT

As of 6pm Friday night we are now playing a Wet Weather Draw tomorrow 29 May as Hurstville Council have closed the grass courts. Please click on ‘Wet Weather Draw and Information’ to the left for more information. Note that Sub-Junior games and the Open Division Bye Game are cancelled on Wet Weather Draw days.

There are 2 changes to the usual Wet Weather Draw for tomorrow impacting Open Div 2. Oatley1 v St Andrews and Lugarno5 v Oatley2 games would normally be playing at 2:40pm on a Wet Weather Draw day but will play at 3:30pm tomorrow.

May 2010 — 22 MAY— AS AT 10:00am—COURTS PLAYABLE

As at 10am 22 May all courts were inspected and playable with no problems. Please check back here for any further updates in case of more rain.

AUGUST 2010— SUB-JUNIORS

Thanks to the Sub-Junior Coaches and Managers for making the last day of play such a fun day. See you next year!

August 2010 WEEK 11 GAMES 14 AUGUST—FINAL ROUND

Sub-Juniors have fun Round Robin games lined up for this Week 11 on 14 August as their last week of play for the year. Could all Sub-Junior players please be at the courts by 11:45 for a 12:00 sharp start on grass courts 1 to 5. No scoring on the day and the two divisions will be combined. The draw for the day will be on the white boards. Expect around 1 hour of play. A short presentation will follow the games.

Juniors scoring as at Week 9 determined semi-final rankings. Note all Junior teams are in the finals as there are only 4 teams in each Junior division.

Intermediates and YP’s scores as at the end of Week 10 determined semi final rankings.

Open scores at the end of Week 11, plus an adjustment for bye games and games not played, will determine semi final rankings.

Note that all semis and finals are played on the Top Courts 21 August [semis] and 28 August [finals]. Semis are the usual 1 v 4 ranking and 2 v 3 ranking to determine finalists in each division. Finalists are the winners of the semis and will play the final inside their own division this year.
